You can delete your Farwatch account and its data in two ways. You don't need the app installed for the second. Farwatch is made by Loud Cat Studios LLC.
In the app
Open the Account tab and choose “Delete account” at the bottom. It asks for your password, happens straight away, and can't be undone.
Without the app
Email privacy@farwatch.app, ideally from the address on your account, and say you want your account deleted. Before deleting anything, we'll email the address on the account to check the request is really yours, and we delete it once you answer that email.
If you can no longer use that address, we can't confirm the request is yours by email, so we can't act on it. Sign in to the app with your password instead and delete it from the Account tab, which needs nothing else.
We delete the account within 30 days and tell you when it's done. It does exactly what deleting it in the app does.
What's deleted, and what's kept
- Deleted: your name, email address and sign-in, and every trip you never sent to anyone, with its attachments.
- Trips you sent are withdrawn: the plan's contents, emergency contact and attachments are erased, and the link your watchers hold shows only that you withdrew the plan. Watchers of a trip that isn't over are emailed to say so, unless they have stopped Farwatch's emails.
- Kept: an emptied record of each withdrawn trip, holding only internal IDs and dates; the names and email addresses of the watchers who were sent a plan, so their link can show it was withdrawn; a record that the account was deleted, with no names; and the records of trips, watchers and files you deleted earlier, with their names removed.
- If you ever subscribed to Farwatch Plus, we also ask RevenueCat, which keeps track of subscriptions for us, to delete its record of your purchases. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription, which you do in the App Store or Google Play.
- Deleted information can remain in database backups for up to 7 days, and so can the previous copy of a removed file. A short note of the deletion, kept so that restoring a backup cannot undo it, lasts 8 days. These copies are cleared on a schedule, so clearing them can take a few days longer. Deleted information can remain in server logs for up to 30 days. Emails to privacy@farwatch.app, including a deletion request, are held for 30 days on the way to our inbox, and we keep our emails with you about the request as a record of it.
To have a sent trip removed completely, watchers included, say so in the same email. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
